Feliciano Lopez joined a host of top players to crash out of the South African Open in the first round. Feli lost to Canadian Frank Dancevic in three sets.
The defending champion followed third seed Janko Tipsarevic and seventh seed Rainer Schuttler out of the competition, while eight-seeded Pole Michal Przysiezny bowed out in the second round on another rain hit day in Johannesburg.
Yesterday saw the exit of second-seeded Lu Yen-Hsun and Florent Serra, seeded five, meaning Kevin Anderson (four) and Adrian Mannarino (six) are now the only remaining seeds at Montecasino.
Lopez could have joined them but was left to rue several wasted opportunities in a match that lasted more than two hours and experienced a rain delay with the players tied at a set apiece.
The world number 33 eventually lost 7-6 (7/5) 2-6 6-7 (8/10), but wasted 10 break-point chances during the clash, which was dominated by the serve as the two players sent down 50 aces between them.
In the end Dancevic, the world number 234, proved too strong as he booked a second-round meeting with South African wildcard Fritz Wolmarans, who also came from a set down to beat Dutchman Igor Sijsling 4-6 6-3 6-4.
I won't make any further comment for this tournament as Feli is out and I lost my interest, but I will make for sure much more references to the Spaniard champion as he remains one of the most promiscuous players!
